Easy Step n - Introduct to Stepper Motor
Explains to the reader how to determine surplus motor electrical and mechanical specs by using easy-to-build electrical and mechanical test equipment. The experimenter will learn to design and build microcontroller based control systems and to design and build driver circuits to switch power applied to stepper motor windings. The book is hands-on and full of experiments. The format of the books uses flow charts and many code examples in a step-by-step approach. By David Benson, 200 pgs, 11"x8-1/2".

An Introduction to light in electronics
Taken for granted by us all perhaps, yet this book could not be read without it, light plays such an impressive role in daily life that we may be tempted to consider just how much we understand. We most certainly appreciate its existance and although it has been around for a long time and now is the subject of much research, there is further to go if all the ifs and buts are to be eradicated.
Here it can only be claimed that the book makes a start (and we hope, a good one) into a fascinating and enlightening subject. It might be felt that such a study is going to involve us in much mathematical manipulation. Not so, for here nothing more than basic mathematics is employed. The book has been written with the general electronics enthusiast in mind, not the expert although many of these dedicated people may enjoy some light refreshment.

Practical Fibre-Optic Projects
While fibre-optic cables may have potential advantages over ordinary electric cables, for the electronics enthusiast it is their novelty value that makes them worthy of exploration. Fibre-optic cables provide an innovative alternative to electric cables and represent a practical approach to the problem. Although this subject has not been totally ignored in the electronics press, practical designs using fibre-optics have so far been a bit "thin on the ground". This book provides a number of tried and tested circuits for projects that utilize fibre-optic cables.
The projects include:- Simple audio links, F.M. audio links, P.W.M audio links, Simple d.c. links, P.W.M. d.c. links, P.W.M. motor speed control, RS232C data links, MIDI link, loop alarms, R.P.M. meter,
All the components used in these designs are readily available, none of them require the constructor to take out a second mortgage. By: R.A. Penfold, 144 pgs, 7 X 4.4”.(BP374)

30 simple ic terminal block projects
Constructors in electronics, particularly beginners, may think that the step from discrete component to integrated circuit is 'a bridge too far'. Here are 30 easy-to-build IC projects that will prove otherwise. Chapters include: timer projects; op-amp projects; counter projects; Nand-gate projects and miscellaneous projects. By R. Bebbington, 117 pgs, 7x4.4”.(BP379)

35 opto-display terminal block projects
The developement of multi-coloured light-emmiting diodes(LED's) with lower power consumption than bulbs, has opened up a fascinating new optpdisplay field. None of the projects require hot soldering irons or high voltages. Even young children can screw the componants together on a terminal block, apply a low voltage battery and get things working. There is an introductory chapter on opto-devices and components. The projects are designed , using discrete components and popular ICs in a variety of circuits that will hopefully widen the constructors experience.(BP410)

Introducing Robotics with Lego Mindstorms
How to build a variety of increasingly sophisticated computer controlled robots using the Lego Mindstorms Robotic Invention system (RIS).
• Building techniques and mechanics needed to construct robots using the 'click-together' components supplied in the basic RIS kit.
• Explains to the reader, with little or no programming experience, how robot control programs may be simply constructed on their PC screens, using 'software' building bricks that are supplied with the RIS kit. Programs can then be 'zapped' over an infra red link to the robot's 'brain'. This brain, contains a programmable microcontroller that is also capable of acting on information from the robots various sensors.
• Write robot control programs using a conventional Windows programming language such as VisualBASIC in conjunction with the ActiveX control (called Spirit.OCX) that is also supplied with the RIS kit.
• Detailed building instructions are provided for all the robots featured. (BP901)

More Advanced Robotics with Lego Mindstroms
Shows the reader how to extend the capabilities of the Lego Mindstorms Robotic Invention system (RIS) by using Lego's own accessories and some simple home constructed units.
Build robots that can provide you with 'waiter service' when you clap your hands, perform tricks, 'see' and avoid objects by using 'bats radar', or accurately follow a line marked on the floor. The Lego Vision Command system is also covered, and this can enable your robots to literally 'see' the world around them and respond accordingly. Additional types of sensors including rotation, light, temperature, sound and ultrasonic. For the less experienced, RCX code programs accompany most of the featured robots. Also shown how to write programs using MS VisualBASIC running with the ActiveX control that is provided with the RIS kit.
Detailed building instructions are provided. The designs include rover vehicles, a virtual pet, a robot arm, an 'intelligent' sweet dispenser and a color conscious robot. (BP902)
