Question: The documentation states that the DS1820 was replaced by the DS18S20. Why did the kit contain DS1820?
Answer: The supplier includes either DS1820 or DS18S20 depending on availabilty. Either part will work with the kit

DS1820 TO92 IC

The DS1820 Digital Thermometer provides 9–bit temperature readings which indicate the temperature of the device. Information is sent to/from the DS1820 over a 1–Wire interface, so that only one wire (and ground) needs to be connected from a central microprocessor to a DS1820. Power for reading, writing, and performing temperature conversions can be derived from the data line itself with no need for an external power source. Because each DS1820 contains a unique silicon serial number, multiple DS1820s can exist on the same 1–Wire bus. This allows for placing temperature sensors in many different places. Applications
where this feature is useful include HVAC environmental controls, sensing temperatures inside buildings, equipment or machinery, and process monitoring and control.

4-Channel Temperature Monitor and Control

This kit is an extension of our popular K145 Temperature Logger kit. Like the K145 it features 4 temperature inputs using the DS1820 digital sensor. We have also added 4 relays to provide output control. Commands for reading temperatures or controlling relays are sent via the RS232 serial interface using simple text strings. The kit can be controlled by a simple terminal or communications program (such as Hyperterminal) or via the free Windows software available for the kit.
